About Destination Cincinnati

Destination Cincinnati is a project created in the University of Cincinnati's School of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning during our 2024 Spring Studio. 

​

This project was created to address trends outlined in the American Planning Association 2023 and 2024 Trends Reports. The trends that we see greatly affecting Cincinnati in the future include:

  • Housing challenges and solutions

  • Climate change and mitigation

  • Emerging technology

​

The goal of our project is to address the above trends by making Cincinnati a climate haven for people moving or seeking new opportunities due to climate-induced migration.

What is a Climate Haven?

According to a recent survey, nearly a third of Americans named climate change as a motivation to move.

 

Many people will be moving to “climate havens,” the places experts say will be relatively pleasant to live in as the world heats up and weather events get worse.

​

Researchers have found the Great Lakes region and surrounding states in particular, to be the best destination for people seeking to escape. The Midwest is especially appealing as it has abundant fresh water, cooler summers, and comparatively little risk from hurricanes and wildfires.
